Clark Tracey Quintet ft. James Copus

The Hermon Jazz spring programme gets off to a well-impressive start with the Clark Tracey Quintet, a group that acts as a springboard and showcase for exceptionally talented young Jazz musicians who make their way onto the UK-scene. The group has recently recorded its debut CD entitled No Doubt and has already received critical acclaim for its live appearances at Ronnie Scott’s Club, Swanage Jazz Festival and the South Coast Jazz Festival. The young players are led by distinguished drummer Clark Tracey, who has been at the forefront of British jazz for over 40 years, starting his own career as professional, performing musician in 1978 at the tender age of 17 when joining the bands of his father, iconic pianist Stan Tracey CBE. This concert will be a delightful treat for anybody who appreciates an evening of music routed in British Jazz traditions laced with the spirit of youthful exploration!

MORE ABOUT CLARK TRACEY - DRUMS

As a freelance drummer, Clark has had the opportunity to work alongside many jazz greats from America as well as most of the UK’s top names. He has recorded more than 100 albums, 15 under his own name, and worked in more than 50 countries around the world. He runs a weekly jazz venue and the annual Herts Jazz Festival in Hertfordshire, for which he received the British Empire Medal in 2019. As an educator, he is currently Visiting Tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire of Music and has released an instructional book ‘Exploring Jazz Drums’ for Schott Publishing. He has received awards for the Best Drums category in the British Jazz Awards for six years. This year he completed writing the jazz content for the latest Trinity College Syllabus 2020.
