James Owston Trio - Featuring Trish Clowes

Since graduating from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2019, bassist James Owston has fast become a well-known face on the UK jazz scene. As well as being a prominent sideman, notably playing and recording with Clark Tracey, Paul Dunmall, Neil Yates, Xhosa Cole, Alex Clarke, and many more, James leads his own band - the James Owston Trio - and has written music for a range of ensembles. He was a finalist in the 2018 BBC Young Jazz Musician award. Over the course of his latest project, 'Songs from an Imaginary Childhood', James has been working closely with saxophonist and mentor Trish Clowes, through the Jazz Central Mentoring Programme for Jazz Midlands.

'Songs from an Imaginary Childhood' explores hazy childhood memories. The concept arose while James was talking to his family about a recurring nightmare from his childhood, which he was surprised to learn he had never told them about. Over the course of the project James has been working closely with saxophonist and mentor Trish Clowes, who appears through the Jazz Central Mentoring Programme for Jazz Midlands.
